Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, said, "I am delighted we have a new Prime Minister and Theresa May, certainly has the experience to  be an excellent choice. The decision by Andrea Leadsom to put the economic stability of the country first and withdraw from the race is testament to the unity of the Conservative Party and our desire to focus on rebuilding the economy.

"I chatted with Theresa last week and outlined the areas I felt we needed to do better and she took those points on board. I look forward to seeing how this materialises into concrete action with fairness being at the heart of every policy and will continue to stand up and fight for everyone in Stevenage."
