His Royal Highness, Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan was the guest of honour at the event on inter-religious dialogue and co-operation hosted at the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral of St George here in Stevenage.
In welcoming Prince Hassan, Bishop Angaelos said, “Having recently celebrated Armistice Day, as the end of war and celebration of all those who gave their lives, the words ‘Lest we forget’ should also be applied to heroes of faith and inclusion. We are a reality in each other’s lives and reconciliation is our only way ahead, both in the Middle East and around the world."
His Royal Highness spoke in his address of the need for a strategy to stabilise the Middle East, the need for a process leading to free and responsible Arab citizenship and answered a variety of questions relating to the rapid decline in the number of Christians in the Middle East.
Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, said, "It was a pleasure to meet Prince Hassan and learn about the work he is leading to promote inter-religious dialogue in the Middle East. I am proud that Stevenage is home to the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral of St George and of the work that they do in our local community."
