Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, welcomed the government decision to consult on allowing schools to keep an emergency inhaler and spacer device for emergencies when children do not have their own inhaler.

Stephen said, "I have been campaigning for this change in the law alongside many others which is basic common sense. At the moment it is illegal for a school to keep emergency inhalers in first aid kits and give them to children suffering attacks. This is a ridiculous situation and needs to be changed, so I am delighted the government has listened and is now consulting on allowing emergency inhalers to be kept in schools. I am pleased this is a positive first step, but we still have some way to go before emergency inhalers will be available in school and the work place."

"Many people do not realise that Asthma is a big killer with three people dying in the UK every single day, with most of those deaths preventable if an inhaler had been available.  It is important this disease is taken seriously and children in schools have access to an inhaler in emergency situations. This simple change in the law could save lives."
