Active travel was the order of the day for the pupils and the families of St Margaret Clitherow Roman Catholic Primary School. The new Park and Stride Initiative had an amazing response with over 90 pupils taking part in the ‘Park and Stride’ walk from Fairlands Valley Showground in Stevenage to the School, along with Stevenage MP Stephen McPartland and local councillor Adam Mitchell.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "It was wonderful to see so many parents and children join the walk to school. Huge congratulations to the Governors and Staff for making this an amazing launch event. I was delighted to tour the school afterwards and am always impressed by the enthusiasm of the children."

Adam Mitchell, who is Hertfordshire County & Stevenage Borough Councillor for the area, said, “I am proud that my former primary school has worked so hard with local organisations to promote healthy travel to and from school in Broadwater.”

Buster the friendly Stepasauras, HCC’s walking mascot, and his new best friend, Borough Bear, the mascot for Stevenage Borough Football Club, who made a special guest appearance, came along to help. Carmela Puccio, Headteacher, commented, “I hope to see families continuing to use Fairlands Valley Showground in the future and enjoying the benefits that it can bring. Thank you to all those who supported us.”

Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, topped out Park Place, a £50 million residential and retail development located in Stevenage town centre. The official launch of Park Place marks a giant step forward and gives a glimpse of what a future town centre regeneration could look like.

Stephen McPartland MP, said, "Park Place marks another important step forward in the regeneration of Stevenage town centre. The £50 million development demonstrates the confidence that investors have in the future of our town and shows what can happen if the Council get out of the way, so we can get on with it.

“It comes on top of the over £300m worth of infrastructure investment I have secured from the government for our schools, hospital, housing and jobs in Stevenage and the surrounding villages.”

The development is the brainchild of local businessman, Ajaz Ahmed. Ajaz, managing partner of MBU Capital, the property developer and leading investment management firm behind the scheme, who commented, “We have designed Park Place to celebrate the town’s rich past whilst creating a new destination.
