Additional funding of £162.5 million is being made available to local authorities from the new Workforce Recruitment and Retention Fund. This funding will enable local authorities to work closely with providers to consider innovative measures to boost adult social care workforce capacity.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "I am very pleased that locally in Hertfordshire we will receive £2,799,344 from the new £162.5 million Workforce Recruitment and Retention Fund. Throughout the pandemic care workers have shown true dedication and professionalism in delivering outstanding care, often in the most challenging circumstances. This additional funding will help bolster the capacity of the adult social care workforce over winter and ensure care workers across the country can continue to deliver high quality care for the most vulnerable in our society."

The funding could be used to invest in retention activity, such as occupational health and wellbeing schemes; recruitment activity, such as local recruitment campaigns; or activity to enhance the capacity of the existing workforce, such as the creation of shared banks of care staff, or funding overtime payments. A similar fund last winter, the £120 million Workforce Capacity Fund, created over 7 million hours of additional adult social care staffing time and contributed to the recruitment of over 39,000 additional care staff.
