Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, campaign to protect local people from Stevenage Borough Council's car parking rip off is receiving massive support. Thousands of local people have joined the campaign already and hundreds more local people signed the petition at the stall this weekend with more signing online here all the time.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "The support for the campaign from local people is amazing. Stevenage Borough Council is taking more than £3 million a year in car parking charges, which is actively preventing the regeneration of Stevenage town centre. The Portas Review clearly showed that car parking charges were the biggest barrier to regeneration. I have raised this in Parliament and with the Prime Minister himself, as Stevenage Borough Council have talked about regenerating our town centre for decades, but cannot give up their addiction to the £3 million in car parking charges, which blocks every regeneration attempt.

"I am calling on Stevenage Borough Council to apologise and move forward by introducing 3 hours free parking so more local people can afford to shop locally.  Stevenage is doing really well and we can get a refurbished town centre if Stevenage Borough Council stops ripping off local people. Please sign the petition and help us regenerate our town centre."
