Working hard for you

Rhianna Fisher, a pupil at Aston St Marys School, wanted to find a way of saying thank you for the life-saving treatment she received at The Royal Brompton Hospital last year. Rhianna persuaded her head teacher to hold a non-uniform day with cake sale and chidlren's raffle to raise funds for the hospital, and invited local Member of Parliament, Stephen McPartland.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "Rhianna is incredibly brave and I am delighted she is so confident and happy at school.  She raised a fantastic £360 from her efforts and the support of the pupils, teachers and parents of Aston St Marys School. I am campaigning to stop the proposed closure of the unit by NHS bureaucrats alongside many other local families and these events help raise awareness."

Rhianna's parents, Jasmine and Neil Fisher, added their thanks, "This was all in aid of raising money to buy toys and games for the children who are patients on Rose Ward within the The Royal Brompton Hospital. We would like to say a massive thank you for your continued support towards the campaign for Saving the Royal Brompton Hospital."

Head teacher, Jule Winwood, added, "We are all very proud of Rhianna. When she was taken ill at school, we called an ambulance immediately. The response of the ambulance service was amazing.  She was taken to Lister Hospital and then moved to the specialist Royal Brompton Hospital.  Rhianna spent a lot of time on the Rose Ward and wanted to do something for other children who may also spend time on the ward. As a school we were delighted to be able to help with such important fundraising."

A senior team of Lloyds Bank Executives descended on Stevenage to learn more about Community engagement. Lloyds Bank relationship director Steve McQueen asked Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, to speak about the current opportunities and challenges in our area.  The Lloyds Ambassadors Executive meeting also picked two Stevenage-based charities as its chosen charities.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "It is fantastic Lloyds Bank are supporting them, as we have to get the local business community behind such great causes. It was also a wonderful opportunity to showcase Stevenage, as Stevenage Borough Council are always talking down our town."

The two charities selected are Twin Towns 1000 cyclists, who are aiming to raise £100,000 for the Lister Hospital and the Stevenage FC Foundation which works to provide the National Citizen Service scheme locally.

Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, is raising awareness of Garden House Hospice Care's Make a Will Week campaign.  The hospice, which offers care to local people, including many in Stevenage, has teamed up with local solicitors.  From 20th to 24th March participating solicitors will waive their usual fees so that supporters can get a basic Will for a donation instead.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "I encourage everyone if they haven't got a Will to contact a participating solicitor for the Garden House Hospice Care 'Make a Will Week'. Leaving a Will ensures there is no doubt that your final wishes are in place. This campaign is kindly supported by local solicitors giving up their time in aid of Garden House Hospice Care for a very reasonable suggested donation.  All donation proceeds support an amazing charity caring for our local community."

Katy Terry, Development Manager at the hospice said, “Thanks to all the participating solicitors for giving people this fantastic opportunity to get an affordable, professional Will written whilst supporting local patients and families who are facing a life-limiting illness. There are limited appointments though so please book now.”
