Stevenage is leading the way in the vaccination programme with a mass vaccination centre, 2 GP Surgeries, Lister Hospital and Chells Pharmacy all vaccinating local people. Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage visited St Nicholas GP Surgery to see the vaccination programme in action.
Stephen McPartland MP, said “It was an incredibly uplifting experience. All of our GPs are working together and have identified two GP surgeries where they give the vaccinations. On my visit 1436 local people were done in just one day at the St Nicholas GP surgery. It is incredibly well organised, the patients are a little nervous on the way in, but quickly reassured, vaccinated and leave very relieved. They are inside for less than 2 minutes and the organisation is military like precision, while warm and friendly.
“The number vaccinated was staggering and is actually more than our mass vaccination centre does in a single day. I have now asked Ministers if our local GPs can take over running the mass vaccination centre too, as alongside the Lister Hospital, they have the experience, flexibility and desire to get to every single person in our community quickly. They are also out there making sure the housebound are vaccinated, so no one is left behind.
“I am so proud that Stevenage is leading the way with the vaccine roll out and huge thanks to all the staff involved at all our centres as their warmth and commitment makes a huge difference to the patients being vaccinated. I would also like to thank MECCA Bingo for the treats they organised for me to give to the vaccination team at St Nicholas - another wonderful example of our brilliant community spirit here in Stevenage.”
