Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, was contacted by local resident Sarah Holmes after their local park at Harvey Road was closed by Stevenage Borough Council because of damage from vandalism.
Stephen McPartland MP said, "Shocking that Stevenage Borough Council have been punishing young children in Chells. Parents were told they would have to wait a year for the play park, directly behind Camps Hill School, to be fixed as part of the Council's normal works programme.
"This is not fair. Vandals destroyed the park back in May, Stevenage Borough Council locked the park and the only people being punished are hundreds of primary school children. It needs sorting out now and Stevenage Borough Council are hoping to fix it now by August, still too long and not good enough!"
Sarah's daughter, Harriet Holmes, a pupil at Camps Hill Primary School had written a letter to Stevenage Borough Council complaining about the vandalism and asking when it would be fixed and upgraded but had no reply. Following support from Stephen McPartland MP, Emma Flawn who is head teacher at Camps Hill, and local people, the council has now stated repair work is due to be completed in August.
