The Rt Hon Stephen McPartland

Stevenage resident and Points of Light award winner Dr Nathalie Pettorelli of the Zoological Society of London met with Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage recently.  He was keen to understand more about how scientists' research can be used to help government make policy decisions.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "Many areas of science and technology involve complex topics and, as a member of the Board of the Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology (POST), I welcome the advice of our expert scientists, like Nathalie, to provide scientific evidence as part of the policy making process.

"Nathalie is already an inspirational female science role model and working to make women in research more visible. I am incredibly proud that this was recognised with her Points of Light award."

The Royal Society’s scheme pairs scientists with MPs so that they can learn about each other’s worlds and explore how research findings can inform policy making.
