Local groups with their own community buildings are able to apply to the Power Partners Fund for grants of up to £20,000 to make energy efficiency improvements.

Stevenage MP, Stephen McPartland, said, "I know there are groups using their own buildings which could benefit from these grants to improve energy efficiency to give a better environment and help to save money. The Power Partners Fund can help make a difference, so if your group has a suitable project it could be the opportunity to turn it into reality."

UK Power Networks has set up the £300,000 Power Partners Fund which will give up to 40 grants to not-for-profit organisations and community groups of between £2,000 and £20,000 to be more energy efficient and save money through improvements and advice. Publically owned buildings are not eligible. The fund will be adminstered in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Energy and applications for the first round of grants close on 18th February. Following elections in each class, the new School Councillors at Aston St Mary's Church of England Primary School were presented with their badges by Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, whose constituency includes Aston.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "I was pleased to meet the new school councillors and present them with their badges. I look forward to hearing more about their work over the rest of the school year as representatives of their classes."

Head teacher, Julie Winwood, added, "Our new school councillors were delighted to be officially welcomed into our School Council and presented with their badges by our MP, Stephen McPartland. They are excited to begin their work to continue to ensure our pupils have a voice on what happens at Aston St Mary's School."

The School Councillors are elected by their class to represent their views and work together to help make improvements to the school. The School Councillors work together with Julie and volunteer, Dennis Preston, who help guide the children.

Stephen McPartland MP marked Holocaust Memorial Day by signing the Holocaust Educational Trust's Book of Commitment in the Houses of Parliament. It honours the victims and pays tribute to survivors on the Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.

Stephen McPartland MP said, “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people to reflect on the tragic events of the Holocaust. It reminds us all how intolerance and hate in communities can lead to the destruction of so many lives. We must never let the politics of hate lead to such tragic events ever again. As the Holocaust moves from living history, to ‘just’ history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember the victims and also pay tribute to the survivors.”

Karen Pollock MBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said, “The Holocaust did not start in the gas chambers but with hate filled words. Our mission is to educate young people from every background about the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance. We are very grateful to Stephen McPartland MP for signing the Book of Commitment, signalling a continued commitment to remembering the victims of the Holocaust as well as challenging antisemitism, prejudice and bigotry in all its forms.”

Holocaust Memorial Day is on 27th January and marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history.
