More than 1 in 100 people are on the autism spectrum. This means that someone sees, hears and feels the world in a different, often more intense, way to other people. Autistic people often find social situations difficult and struggle to filter out the sounds, smells, sights and information they experience, which means they feel overwhelmed by ‘too much information’ when out in public.
Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, said, “While lots of people have heard of the word autism, very few actually understand what it means to be autistic. The National Autistic Society’s Too Much Information campaign includes a report that shows how a lack of the Public's understanding of autism is pushing autistic families into isolation.
"No-one should ever feel so misunderstood that they cannot leave their own home. That is why I am pleased to support the Too Much Information campaign and help improve a wider understanding of autism."
