The homes, at the Old School of Nursing on Corey's Mill Lane, are managed by local housing association Origin Housing, and Origin Chief Executive Karen Wilson and Key Worker Operations Manager Phillip Allott showed Stephen around. There are over 300 places at the site, right next to Lister Hospital, from shared-room apartments and hotel facilities, to four-bed houses, that are used overnight or for much longer stays – one resident has lived here for 16 years.
Although the demand for housing continues to be high, the way people want to live changes. For example, previously popular flats with shared facilities and common areas are becoming harder to let. Origin has just converted some of these into self-contained family homes - which were let immediately.
The Lister accommodation also caters for GlaxoSmithKline staff training at its research and development centre.
