Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, has been elected as Chairman of the Regulatory Reform Select Committee. In Parliament, Select Committees are very powerful and a huge part of the legislative process. It also means he becomes a member of the Liaison Select Committee, which is made up of all Select Committee Chairmen and takes evidence from the Prime Minister on matters of public policy. Stephen McPartland will also remain a member of the Finance Select Committee.
Stephen McPartland MP said, “The Regulatory Reform committee looks at Legislative Reform Orders, which are used to remove or reduce burdens on business and the public resulting directly or indirectly from legislation. It is a form of 'fast-tracking' non-controversial legislative change without the need to introduce a new Bill before Parliament. The Committee can also look at the wider deregulatory work of the Government as part of its remit to consider 'Matters relating to regulatory reform'.
“I am very pleased, as it is a powerful committee with huge responsibility and a real privilege to be elected as the Chairman.”
