The specialist rheumatology team, based at the Lister hospital, invited Stevenage Member of Parliament, Stephen McPartland, to visit to understand more about the wide range of services to help sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis.
Stephen McPartland MP said, "It was good to hear direct from patients how different aspects of their care help directly by offering some relief and improving their everyday lives. The team of professionals bring together their expertise with a multi-disciplinary approach and I am pleased that their care and dedication is recognised."
Liz Lees, the Trust's director of nursing, added, "We were delighted to welcome Mr McPartland to the Lister, where he met with some of our award-winning rheumatology team to hear about the care they provide for their patients. They enjoyed telling him about the services they provide, which often result in patients seeing real improvements in the quality of their lives."
People using the rheumatology service have access to a wide range of help, including specialist clinics, a helpline, educational afternoon about arthritis, joint protection programme and monitoring of treatment, as well as referral to other health professionals such as podiatry, occupational therapy, physiotherapy or orthotics. The team also liaises with dermatology, respiratory and orthopaedic departments as appropriate.
