With more powers being devolved to Scotland following the independence referendum last year, it is not fair that Members of Parliament representing Scotland continue to determine issues that only affect England. This basic constitutional unfairness cannot be ignored any longer and Members of Parliament from all over England have petitioned Parliament to try and make the system fairer.

Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, said, "I am joining with many other Members of Parliament to petition Parliament, to try and introduce some fairness into the system. It seems ridiculous that a Member of Parliament from Scotland can vote on issues that only affect England, but English Members of Parliament have no say on the same issues in Scotland. It seems only fair that we should be able to decide our own priorities in our classrooms and in our NHS for example.

"I have had a lot of support locally with many people signing the petition at my stalls. Sadly, due to parliamentary rules this petition cannot be signed online and has to be done on paper in person. Something else we need to think about changing in the next parliament."
