Stephen McPartland, MP for Stevenage hosted a flu vaccination service in Parliament, to highlight the importance of preparing for a healthy winter for those most at risk groups.
Stephen McPartland MP said, "I truly believe flu vaccinations are key to ensuring communities have a happy and healthy winter. As an asthma sufferer myself, I understand how catching flu can have a real impact on your overall health and wellbeing. Having a flu vaccination ensures you are highly unlikely to suffer with flu yourself and can also protect those you are nearest to.
"Just one person with flu can cause nearly 16,500 other people to become infected with the flu within two weeks. This figure is staggering and makes you think about all the people you come into contact with on a daily basis. These may even be people within the most vulnerable at risk group, including the over 65, pregnant women and those suffering with particular health conditions like asthma or lung disease.
"It is important for anyone who is offered a free flu vaccination from the NHS to visit their GP or a local community pharmacy that has been commissioned to offer this service. Many community pharmacies offer a flu vaccination service to those who are not eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination."
