Children in Year 6 at The Leys Primary School had the opportunity to put their questions to Stevenage MP Stephen McPartland recently when they quizzed him on topics such as financial investment for Stevenage town centre and how his role affects the plans for the future.
Stephen McPartland MP said, "I always enjoy visiting our local schools and seeing the amazing work that the children and teachers are doing. It is fascinating listening to the issues that they raise and I am always surprised how easily they grasp complex issues. I am proud that the future of our town is in such good hands."
The Leys have had a great year. They started off the year with very positive feedback from Ofsted when the school was judged as a Good school in February. In July they achieved their best ever SATs results raising the standards in the school by up to 40% over the last couple of years, to above national averages. Then in September the whole community got behind the school, which was voted winner of BOBs Best School out of nineteen schools nominated on BOB FM.
Ms Leigh Humphries, the Head Teacher, said that she was very proud of the achievements of the school and "it has been great to see the children thinking about how the town has developed and what changes will be needed in the not so distant future. Who knows, maybe one day one of our children will be in charge of such decisions!"
