Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, has called on the Chairman of the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, John Gourd, to resign over his role in holding back Stevenage Town Centre Regeneration. The new regeneration committee dreamt up by Stevenage Borough Council and John Gourd is nothing more than a talking shop.
Stephen McPartland MP, said, "I am devastated at this stitch up behind closed doors to kick Stevenage Town Centre Regeneration into the long grass. Stevenage Borough Council are desperate to stop our 3 hours free car parking campaign as they are addicted to the £3.5 million a year they take in car parking charges.
"The first step towards regenerating our town centre has to be the introduction of 3 hours free parking and us all getting behind the Stevenage Development Company/Partnership which we agreed back in June with Lord Heseltine.
"I am shocked at the weakness of John Gourd, Chair of the Hertfordshire LEP, and have raised my concerns both privately and publicly when he refused to include widening of the A1(M) in their bid for government money. Today is the final straw and he has to resign as he is failing Hertfordshire and holding back Stevenage."
