Rt Hon Stephen McPartland MP
Working hard for you
in Stevenage, Knebworth, Codicote, Datchworth and Aston

Stephen McPartland MP has welcomed new figures showing a record number of new company registrations in Stevenage in the first quarter of 2014, compared with any previous quarter in history. This has helped reduce unemployment locally and the huge increase in apprenticeships has helped to dramatically reduce youth unemployment.

Stephen McPartland MP said, "In Stevenage, the number of local people claiming unemployment benefit has almost halved over the last four years and the figure now stands at 3%. There is still much more to do, as I want to help everyone locally, who can work, into work.

"There are more and more job opportunities being created locally as 223 new companies registered in Stevenage during the first quarter of 2014. Stevenage is leading the way with a 21.2% increase, compared with an increase of 11.8% for the UK as a whole. I work very hard to encourage people to create new companies and also to relocate existing companies to Stevenage, as more businesses means more jobs are available.

“These figures show the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working, backing businesses to create more jobs. We need to stick to that plan. It is the only way to ensure that we keep growing the economy and creating jobs, so that more local families can have the security of a job and a regular pay packet.”
