Stephen McPartland Member of Parliament for Stevenage has welcomed the additional £2,191,882 in Government funding to tackle potholes in Hertfordshire.
Stephen McPartland MP commented, “This is great news for everybody who uses our roads in Stevenage and the surrounding villages.
“£2,191,882 of new funding will go a long way to dealing with the menace of potholes, which I know is a real bugbear of my constituents. I work with local people to get potholes filled in and roads repaired on a weekly basis, so appreciate how much this money will help. I will be pushing Hertfordshire Highways hard to ensure we get a large slice of this investment and we can repair even more roads locally.
“Investing in Britain’s roads and infrastructure is a key part of the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan to secure a better future for Britain – and this is an important part of that. It may not be glamorous but by fixing Britain’s roads we are supporting local businesses, and making life that bit easier for the hardworking people in Stevenage.”
In total £5,812,638 of additional funding for Hertfordshire has been announced for this year, on top of the annual roads maintenance budget. It is estimated that over three million potholes will be filled in across England because of the £168 million Pothole Fund. This is part of more than £24 billion which will be spent on England’s roads between 2010 and 2021 – the biggest investment in our roads since the 1970s.
