Local resident and ex-serviceman Derrick Hale organised a Big Brew Up in support of SSAFA in Stevenage town centre and raised a total of £184 from donations in return for tea, coffee and cake.
Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage, said, "SSAFA are an incredible organisation helping support our service men and women, their families and veterans. The local branch in Stevenage is led by inspiring volunteers and I was proud to help take part in their Big Brew Up. The support from local people was fantastic and shows once again what a wonderful community spirit we have here in Stevenage."
Derrick Hale said, "I was approached by a number of veterans that needed help. I was able to give them the telephone number of our Divisional Secretary who will deal with their individual problems.
"I would like to thank all the ladies that made and donated cakes of all types, without these wonderful people there would not be a Big Brew Up. I would also like to say a big thank you to Stephen McPartland MP for his support, and also my team of volunteers on the day, Mrs Gill Hale, Mrs Kim Clark, Lesley and Samuel Roberts."
