Stephen McPartland Working hard for you in Stevenage, Knebworth, Codicote, Datchworth and Aston
I have launched a campaign to protect local people from Stevenage Borough Council's car parking rip off. Stevenage Borough Council is taking more than £3 million a year in car parking charges, which is preventing the regeneration of Stevenage town centre. What is shocking is over a million pounds is pure profit and I believe it is much higher, as Stevenage Borough Council claim it costs them almost £2 million to maintain the car parks, which no one believes. The Portas Review clearly showed that car parking charges were the biggest barrier to the regeneration of our town centres.
I am calling on Stevenage Borough Council to apologise and move forward by introducing 3 hours free parking so more local people can afford to shop locally. Stevenage is doing really well and we can get a refurbished town centre if Stevenage Borough Council stops ripping off local people. There are lots of ways to get involved and some only take an hour or two, once or twice a year. Please let me know how you can help here.
