Stephen McPartland was elected to the House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Stevenage on 6th May 2010.  He has a keen interest in education, health and science and technology.  He represents these interests in Parliament as a member of the Science and Technology Select Committee, as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Asthma and sat on the Education Bill committee which is directly delivering flagship reform for education nationally.

In his first term as MP, Stephen has secured over £250 million from the government for infastructure investment in Stevenage for housing, schools and the Lister hospital, which will benefit residents of the constituency and the surrounding areas. He is leading a campaign for a satellite Radiotherapy Unit at the Lister Hospital.

Jobs and the economy are vitally important to Stephen; he works closely with North Hertfordshire College and spends time with local businesses.  Stephen is Vice-Chairman of the Space Committee and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups for Furniture Industry.  Stephen firmly believes the key to making a real difference is listening to local residents and businesses and working hard to improve the local community.

Stephen was born in Liverpool on 9th August 1976.  He lives in Stevenage with his wife Emma who is a teacher at a local primary school.  He is an avid reader, a volunteer speaker for Asthma UK and a football fan, often watching Stevenage play.  He is a Trustee of the Living Room and Patron of Turn the Tide, both locally-based charity organisations founded in Stevenage.

Prior to being elected an MP, Stephen was the Director of Membership for British American Business (the US Chamber of Commerce), based in London. Stephen commenced his political career in 1999 in Warrington where he managed a range of local council, Parliamentary and European election campaigns, before moving to Hertfordshire in 2001 to work as a Campaign Manager.

Stephen studied for his first degree in History at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 1997. He studied for an MSc in Technology Management at Liverpool John Moores University the following year.
